New House

We really love our new house. It has a sun room to nap in, hardware to slide on and a backyard to pee in. But there is one small problem. Lincoln doesn't understand this "backyard" potty thing. He understands a "walk."

So he goes outside and suns himself but that's all he wants to do. He doesn't like to use the backyard for his business. He will even wait all day for a walk without any accidents. So Mom asks, how do you train a stinky brother (my addition) to use his new backyard and stop wanting his usual 4 walks a day?

On another note, the good pug child (aka ME) is doing great adjusting to her backyard and new home. Some pugs are just smarter.

Muah,

Minnie Moo

  1. Have you tried putting him on a leash and walking him around the yard? Might be the trick to transition him to going potty back there. :)

  2. What a beautiful house for two great pugs! I'm glad you are all settled in, Minnie. Have your mom try walking Lincoln in the backyard with his leash on to see if he'll go then (thinking he's on one of his walks) and make sure to give him (and you!) some treats when he goes. Maybe that will work? Good luck!

  3. Love your new digs.

Does Lincoln have a command to potty? We have one, and that helps us "remember" when we go to new places. Does he like to pee on things? Maybe a post or big pot would help. We just moved into a new house, and mom put a pot the old owner left in our doggie yard for the boys to "mark".

I'm looking forward to new pictures of your pretty house.

  4. You ARE a smart girl, Minnie Moo xoxo

Stinky Linky (lol) will learn to do his business in the yard eventually-we had to house break our foster dog & when our dog would potty, we told her "good potty". Then we would tell Ralph the same thing so he would learn that pooping outside is what we want him to do & not to poop in the den.
We would also let him out by himself so he could focus on doing his business & even go outside with him & yell "go potty, Ralph" just to remind him what he was out there for. :)

Linky Lou will figure it out-til then, enjoy your sunning, dude! Mwah!

  5. hmmm... that is a good question - we have seen pet stores sell pee posts, which are supposed to attract dogs to pee on them.

Hopefully he will take your lead Minnie and figure out that he is supposed to do his bizness in the back yard!

  6. We adopted a pug like that, her former owners just threw her outside and she didn't know what was supposed to be happening. When we got her we just took her out on the leash with one of the other dogs and walked her in the yard until she did her business then praised her lavishly and within a week or too she got it.
We always maintained a regular walking schedule.
    Hope this helps.

  7. That's a tough one. My aunt has two schnauzers and they refuse to potty in their fenced in yard. They get taken for 3 to 4 walks a day to do their business. Maybe he'll get the hang of it from watching you!! =)

  8. What a great house and backyard. Lincoln will learn how to pee in the yard real soon! Mack still has to be on a tree or bush or BBQ (!) or something...
You guys look so relaxing in the sun!

  10. Oh Minnie, Boys don't get it, do they? It is so obvious that a yard is for independence - peeing at will - communicating with the neighborhood. Harrumph! Tell Lincoln to come down to earth and pee for Dog's sake!
    Love Noodles
SOMETIMES I fake going out to pee so I can snag a little extra rays and O2s.

  13. Hi Minnie,
Congratulations on your new home! Mom likes the front porch and the antique bricks in the backyard.

When I was a puppy, Mom trained me to go on potty pads, then she wanted me to go potty in the backyard. Like Linky, I didn't want any part of that... then Mom placed a potty pad on the grass and it worked! So now I can do both, which is great especially when it's pug melting weather or on rainy days.

    Hope this helps.
    Hugs,
    Suki

  16. Such a PRETTY new house!!! Congrats!

Yes, we were going to suggest the pee post too! Mom bought me a FIRE HYDRANT from Hobby Lobby and I like to use that! Have mom stand by with little bits of hot dog (or Linky's fave treatables) and praise the HELL out of him when he does do the deed!

    He's a smart dude....he'll get it eventually!

    Enjoy your new digs!

    Love,

  17. Yay for your new house!! And yard most importantly. When I moved to my new house, I didn't understand being off of my leash and I would just stand by mom. Eventually I figured it out so hopefully Lincoln will figure it out too!

    Later!
