New Trick Thursday

Hi ya'll, it's me, Lincoln again. Since Minnie made me seem like a big sick baby earlier this week (puking on Mom in the middle of the night) I get to brag about myself for once.

When I came to live with Mom and Minnie, Mom kept
trying to see if I knew any tricks. I appear to have been largely ignored until I found my forever home because words like "sit," "stay," "lay," and "shake," cause only my eyes to water. Water with the need to please her even though I have no idea what those silly words mean! The one thing I could do was my Elvis snarl which should be considered a trick.

Mom tried everything to teach me to sit, taking advice from many different people. First, she took her dad's advice which was to push my bottom down. I stubbornly kept my bottom from the floor, I'm a pug of steel. Next someone told her that nowadays, you teach dogs to sit by holding the treat over their head until they fall backwards into a sit or you back them into a corner. Anytime Mom did this, I just went under her legs and waited till she turned around to give me the treat. Next, she tried to just say it every time, hoping I would catch on. I didn't. Finally, one of Mom's co-workers showed her how to do it, you hold the treat barely over my nose or a little past it, and I sit. Now, I'm very proud to say that the word "sit" now is in my vocabulary. Unlike Minnie who only sits when someone shows her treat and promises it to her, I sit anywhere, anytime the word is spoken. It only has taken me three months to finally understand that when you sit, they give you all kinds of praise and treats.

(Here's me sitting, Minnie is also sitting off to the side, hoping to eat my treat)

Mom says every time I sit, I look very pleased with myself. Well duh, I learned a new trick!

  3. Oh I didn't know you could be like Elvis!

And for sitting, pushing the bum doesn't usually work. What you can do is the scoop method. your hooman goes to scoop your back end and lightly presses their arm on the back of you t back knees. It forces your knees to bend and then your butt to sit.

  9. You did awesome Lincoln! We think your Elvis snarl should earn an award or something. Funny, because Coco sat the day after we got her after seeing Kitty do it and get a treat. BUTT, Miss Kitty Independent only did it after a ton of training.

P.S. How would you feel about being a supermodel? Mom wants me to ask your mom if she could use your Elvis Snarl photo as a reference for a painting. Let us know. We are huge fans.
